Editor's Review
Mobile games’ ecosystem is colourful, Cookingdom is a delicious mix of strategy, time management and culinary creativity. Developed by food and fun enthusiasts, this game challenges game players to become a master chef and build their restaurant empire. With delightful imagery, easy-to-get-started gameplay, and a light-hearted sense of humor, Cookingdom provides a good deal of addictive and feel-good entertainment for casual and culinary game players.
As a matter of fact, Cookingdom is a time management game where you cook, prepare and serve different dishes to the waiting end masses of customers before they walk away. With each level comes a fresh new challenge as you operate your busy ice cream shop or easily a high-end Italian eatery at each level you have to deal with customers with complicated recipes and more advanced kitchen equipment along with a larger space that can contain more customers. The game starts off small with burgers and fries, and quickly becomes a veritable culinary carnival with sushi, pasta, sweets and edgy international menus. The progression is felt, as players discover new recipes, decor and restaurant themes that add a sense of freshness to the game.
One of the game's strongest elements is its depth of strategy. Unlike the plethora of casual cooking games that are all about speed, Cookingdom is more about planning ahead. You just have to get those efficient kitchen setups, manage your ingredients wisely and upgrade at the right time. Would it be more useful to invest in a faster stove, or to employ an additional waitstaff? These are tiny little decisions that add a layer of strategy, that keep you engaged instead of just tapping the screen dull-eyed. You can also unlock (or purchase) special power-ups and boosters to assist with the more challenging levels, but these are well balanced so you never feel like the game is just pay-to-win.
Visually, Cookingdom is an eye candy. The art style is bright and cartoony, its characters designed with a lot of character, while the food is finely detailed and expressive of its in-limbo state of being. The sight of a perfectly grilled steak sizzling or a frothy cappuccino being made is somehow satisfying and contributes to the game’s immersive appeal. The restaurants themselves, which range from cozy diners to ritzy five-star venues, can be decked out in customizable themes so that players can make their mark on their culinary kingdom.
In addition to the main campaign, Cookingdom also includes a range of side activities and events to bring players back. Time-limited challenges, seasonal festivals and visitors in the form of eccentric in-game characters also add to the replay value. The social aspect, allowing to compete against friends on the leaderboards or share achievements, add to the community feeling. The game is also frequently updated to add even more content meaning there is always new content to find for players that have been with the game for a long time.
What really makes Cookingdom unique though, is how light and funny it is. Customers will also react to the service very differently, as their preferences are determined by their own personality; some of them will be huffy and leave if they’re waiting too much, while others might even jump and cheer when they receive their favorite dish. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, the humorous animations and thumb tack-in-cheek dialogue will leave you feeling joyful, not stressed.
Long and short, if you like cooking games, if you like a new cooking games, or if you want to challenge the game, you can’t miss this cooking game. This, its fun mechanics, attractive visuals, regular updates, and stellar community make it one of the genre’s most polished games. So don your chef’s hat, fire up the virtual ovens and assemble the tastiest empire the gaming world has ever seen.
